Hi,
I thought I'd share another poem, I have been doing them alot recently they have been helping me heal through the fear and anger of being a woman.
Traffic Light
Being a woman
can feel like standing at a crossing
while people pretend
they do not know the colours.
Green—
clear, willing, open.
Yes.
People understand green.
They like green.
They wait for green.
They celebrate green.
But some people act
as if green lasts forever.
As if once it was yes,
it must always be yes.
As if permission, once given,
is permanent.
Then comes amber.
Pause.
Unsure.
Slow down.
Check again.
Maybe not.
Not now.
I’m changing.
I need space.
Amber is caution.
Amber is not an invitation
to rush through before the moment closes.
Amber is not
take what you can get.
Amber is not
convince me faster.
Amber means
attention.
Respect.
Wait.
But so many see amber
and press harder.
Lean forward.
Push on.
Try their luck.
They mistake hesitation
for opportunity.
Then red.
Clear.
Bright.
Absolute.
No.
Stop.
Do not proceed.
Red should be the easiest colour
in the world to understand.
And still—
some go anyway.
They look around first.
Did anyone see?
Will anyone stop me?
Can I call this green
if nobody argues loud enough?
Because to some people,
the rule is not consent.
The rule is consequence.
If I don’t get caught,
it counts.
If I got what I wanted,
it must have been allowed.
But listen carefully—
A woman is not confusing.
Consent is not complex.
The colours are not hard to learn.
If it is not green,
slow down.
If it is amber,
wait.
If it is red,
stop.
And if you do not care
what colour it is,
the problem
was never the signal.
It was you.
